Welcome! Earthsounds Native American Style Flutes are hand-crafted by Eric Keppel of Winterport, Maine, from many varieties of wood, traditional to exotic. The most traditional wood for Native American Style Flutes is Cedar, usually either Eastern or Western Red Cedar (also called Aromatic Cedar, for its sweet smell), but flutes of Redwood, White Cedar, Black Walnut, Redheart, Maccassar Ebony, and many other beautiful exotic and domestic woods are available.

Each flute is custom designed and carved to be unique. Of all the flutes that I have made, no two are alike, and each has its own distinctive personality. Some are high and clear, others low and breathy, with many combinations in-between. When one creates a flute, it is said that he removes the heart from the wood, but that it is the responsibility of the one who plays the flute to put their heart back into the flute. With that in mind, these flutes will sing different songs for different people, and since no knowledge of music or rhythm is needed to play one, anyone with a yearning to let out the music inside them can do so.

Your flute is carefully and lovingly hand-made in the traditional way, with a smile on the face and a song on the breath, so that only good feelings are associated with the flute as it is being created. The woods used in constructing the flutes are hand picked for character and beauty, and each flute is sealed with Tung Oil and waterproof Polyurethane during construction, to protect against moisture. Weather permitting, each flute is taken out into the forest and is finished there with hand tools; and there it is brought to life in a good way, singing its first notes to the earth from which it was born.
